Ahh, my startup founders. :-) Granted, they will do anything for free food but generally, they're also willing to help me. One of the watchers of the "photo shoot" laughed and commented, "They will do anything you tell them." And, except for washing dishes and picking up after themselves, it is true! I think it helped that it was cake. ;-)

When I asked them to let me take pictures of them eating cake and drinking juice they just asked why. I simply just had to tell them it was a project I was working on. (And some of them didn't even need that explanation!) There were the jokes about how I was probably poisoning them and who was going to test first. :-) But they didn't hesitate, like true Bob-White spirit.

The spiced grape juice was a surprise to them. I'm not sure many, if any, had heard of it before this. I'm not sure if I would have either if it weren't for Trixie. I can't think of any unrelated reference to it I've come across. (Excepting the search for recipes I did to make sure I made it correctly.)

I really was stuck on the idea of cooking something. As comments to that came up in the thread I got the idea to recreate one of the foodie moments in the books. Unfortunately, my search for Bob-White copy cats was a fail. All I got was a blonde guy and some brunettes. Red-headed men are just incredibly hard to find! Plus, the BWG's weren't a super racially diverse group. We have a lot of Indians, Japanese, Chinese...

At any rate, I would have LOVED to recreate the clambake but the beaches here are fire unfriendly. Plus, I'm not sure we'd be able to eat it. ;-) No Cpt. Clark here to direct it! Then I thought about the coffee cake breakfast at Peter's house but wanted something more difficult. Then I remembered Mrs. Smith and her four layer chocolate cake and spiced grape juice. I was always curious about that juice. And here we are. I was nervous and excited so that seems to translate to the cake baking up just fine. No fallen layers here! It wasn't an even cake but oh well. The juice was surprisingly yummy and smelled AMAZING simmering  in my apartment this morning.
